Biography
Juan de la Cierva fellow at ETSAM-UPM, previously GLS Fellow at Dumbarton Oaks (2022-23). Granadan licensed architect with a PhD in Architectural History from Politecnico di Torino and a PhD in Art History from Universidad de Granada. His research focuses on early modern urban history, specifically on Hispanic foundational practices in 16th century America and Andalusia. He studies primary plans, maps, and legal documents searching for specific connections between early modern politics and their urban consolidation. Parallelly, Manuel analyzes the representation of these historical spaces in contemporary digital culture and videogames.His areas of expertise include Early Modern Architecture, Islamic Architecture, Medieval and Early Modern Urban History, Architectural Representation, Architecture in Press Media, and Architecture + Games Studies.
