Biography
Lisa Godson is Programme Leader of the MA Design History and Material Culture at the National College of Art and Design (Ireland) and Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of the History of Art and Architecture, Trinity College Dublin. She has taught and lectured widely in Europe, the USA, Nigeria and Singapore. Her edited books include Modern Religious Architecture in Germany, Ireland and Beyond with Kathleen James-Chakraborty and Uniform: Clothing and Discipline in the Modern World. Godson frequently collaborates with creative practitioners, including with Still Films for the award-winning feature documentary Build Something Modern, based on her concept and research into modernist architecture in West Africa. She is currently writing a material-architectural history of the site of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham/Irish Museum of Modern Art since 580 CE; the work includes an analysis of the development of carceral-care building typologies in the early modern period and architectural strategies for reusing ‘heritage’ buildings as contemporary art museums in the 1990s.
