Biography

Jennifer is a historian of eighteenth-century Europe with an emphasis on architecture’s relationship to the earth sciences including geology and mining. She explores how the early modern era was an important locus of environmental knowledge for contemporary debates on the climate crisis and sustainability. Her expertise also includes scholarship addressing the forced displacement of refugees, humanitarian ethics, and offshore processing in contemporary Oceania and Southeast Asia. Her current research projects focus on transnational contractors building detention centres and transit housing in the Pacific; migrants and architecture; Aboriginal concepts of catastrophe, climate, and the cosmos.
