Biography
Kristina Jõekalda is Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the Estonian Academy of Arts, Tallinn. In 2022 she works as Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University; she has previously been a Visiting Fellow at Humboldt-Universität Berlin. Her doctoral dissertation was on the topic of German Monuments in the Baltic Heimat? A Historiography of Heritage in the ‘Long Nineteenth Century’ (Tallinn 2020). She has published widely in the field and co-edited special issues of journals such as European Peripheries of Architectural Historiography (The Journal of Architecture 2020); and Debating German Heritage: Art History and Nationalism during the Long Nineteenth Century (Kunstiteaduslikke Uurimusi / Studies on Art and Architecture 2014); as well as the book A Socialist Realist History? Writing Art History in the Post-War Decades (Vienna/Cologne/Weimar 2019). Her research revolves around the history of architectural history and conservation in the 19th and 20th centuries in the context of nationalism and colonialism.
